Circle Surround® VST Pro
Frequently Asked Questions
I've purchased the VST plug-in and received a serial number,
however, internet authorization has failed?
You will need to manually authorize. During the authorization process,
select manual authorization and save your ILR file. Upload the file here
(http://www.srswebauth.com/webauthauto.asp) or send it to prosupport@srslabs.com
along with your serial number so we know that you are registered and need
a license.
Why does my system get sluggish when I enable both the encoder
and decoder plug-ins?
VST plug-ins depend heavily on available system resources. Insufficient
RAM, processing power, or simply too many processes happening at once
can severely hinder, or in some cases stop performance. Be certain that
you have met the minimum requirements as listed for the operating system
you are using.
I use Windows® 98, ME, 2000, or other version of Windows
than XP. Why doesn't this plug-in support my OS?
Windows XP offers superior performance to previous versions. While it
is possible that this VST plug-in suite will work under older operating
systems, support is less of a priority for them. As a result, SRS provides
support only for operation with Windows XP (both Home and Professional),
the latest operating system and is fully supported.
Why doesn't this plug-in support Mac OS 9.?
Mac OS X offers superior performance to previous versions of the Mac OS.
While it is possible that this VST plug-in suite will work under Mac OS
9, support is no longer offered from Apple the OS. As a result, SRS provides
support only for operation with Mac OS X v10,2 or higher. This is the
latest operating system and is fully supported.
When I hard pan audio to one speaker, I get information from
that speaker in other ones. Why is this?
Circle Surround® is a matrix surround system. Discrete surround compression
formats make sacrifices in performance that permit discrete surround panning.
Matrix surround systems make sacrifices in phase relationships but permit
mixers to deliver a surround mix over standard stereo carriers. In most
cases, there is significant dominance to the hard panned channel.
Where is the extra channel in a 6.1 mix?
Going from 5.1 to 6.1 requires a center surround speaker that is placed
in the center of the two surround speakers, at an equal distance from
each.
If I mix in Circle Surround, what do people need to hear it?
Anyone with mono, stereo, or matrix surround decoders can enjoy your mixes.
Circle Surround-encoded material is compatible with nearly every AV receiver
sold. CS-encoded content can be enjoyed in surround by using any Circle
Surround, Circle Surround II, Pro Logic®, Pro Logic II, Pro Logic
IIx, Neo: 6, or Logic 7 decoder.
What does it cost to use the Circle Surround logo on content
that I create with this encoder?
Use of the logo is royalty free under the terms of the License Agreement.
Please read the License Agreement that came with the software or contact
SRS Labs for detailed information on logo usage.
I have existing matrix surround content that was mixed using
Dolby Surround. Can I use the Circle Surround decoder plug-in to monitor
that content?
Yes. The decoder plug-in included with SRS Circle Surround VST Pro is
capable of monitoring Dolby Surround® content in Mono, Stereo, LCRS,
or Circle Surround.
I need to know how my mixes will sound in LCRS (Pro Logic). Can
I do that with this software?
Yes. The SRS Circle Surround VST Pro Decoder included with the Encoder
plug-in, has a mode for monitoring in LCRS.
In broadcasting with Circle Surround, will I need to compensate
for latency created by the encode process?
No. Some discrete digital formats require you to compensate for as many
as 7 frames to remain synchronized with video. Circle Surround is an extremely
efficient encoding process that introduces an insignificant amount of
latency.
Do I need to purchase anything extra to send Circle Surround
through my stereo broadcasting infrastructure?
No. Circle Surround is 100% scalable and can be heard by all listeners
from mono, to stereo to full 6.1 surround with no changes or additional
delivery costs to your stereo infrastructure.
Is Circle Surround compatible with Dolby equipment?
Yes. Circle Surround content can be decoded or monitored using professional
or consumer Dolby matrix decoding equipment. However, you will be subject
to the limits of the decoder used. For example, Pro Logic will limit rear
channel bandwidth and combine the rear channels into mono.
Can I use Circle Surround on an HDTV broadcast? Are there benefits
to doing so?
Yes and yes. You can use the Circle Surround encoder to create your surround
encoded Lt/Rt mix for SDTV, or archiving. You can also run the 6.1 CS
decoder output (minus center surround channel) to an AC-3 encoder before
transmission. This can save time and money over creating two separate
mixes for both Lt-Rt and AC-3.

I am using Nuendo and I'm ready to authorize but I can't get
the AUTHORIZE button to show up anymore. The Circle Surround plug-ins
appear in the Plug-in Information list (from the Device menu), but either
don't show up or cannot beopened when I want to apply them. What can I
do?
Open the Plug-in listing in Nuendo and select the CS Encoder and Decoder.
Click the UPDATE button and the Authorization screen should appear. Proceed
by following the user manual for installation on your platform.
I've authorized my plug-ins, but they still don't show up. What
gives?
You may need to force your host application to re-scan for plug-ins. This
can be done in Cubase SX and Nuendo by going to the Devices menu and selecting
Plug-in Information. Within this dialog click "Update". You
may need to close and re-open the host application.
I've pressed "Update" and my plug-ins still won't show
up?
Check the directory that your host application is looking for your plug-ins.
Make sure that the plug-ins are in there. If they still don't appear,
try re-installing the plug-ins. Be sure to close and re-open the host
application.
I am getting an "Internal Server Error" when I try
to authorize over the internet and it tells me I should manually authorize.
What is wrong?
It is with the way our sever is handling UTF-8 (unicode) characters. This
issue is mostly seen on Macs with default computer names like "Joe's
Computer". There is a work around by renaming your computer without
the apostrophe. This name is in System Preferences under Sharing, Computer
Name. We are looking into this problem and hope to have a solution soon.
We recommend authorizing manually instead of tinkering with your machine
unless you are comfortable with that.
On Windows XP at the end of installation, why does it complain
that there are missing drivers?
The anti-piracy drivers did not install completely. Please visit www.paceap.com
download the latest drivers or install the PACE driver located on the
installation CD. Be sure to restart your system after installing these
drivers. After installing you will need to run the Authorization application
from Start->Programs->SRS Labs->Circle Surround VST Pro->Authorize.
