Significant Events (1993-2007)

SRS Labs is one of the world’s leading audio company’s.  Our business is focused on developing and licensing high-quality audio enhancement, voice processing and surround sound technology solutions to many of the world’s leading original equipment manufacturers (“OEMs”), software providers and semiconductor companies, and licensing and marketing hardware  and software products for the Internet and professional audio markets.

SRS Labs was formed in 1993 with the purchase of all rights and assets of various audio and speaker technologies from the Hughes Aircraft Company ("Hughes"). In August 1996, we successfully completed an initial public offering, raising approximately $22 million. From the company's inception in 1993 until February 1998, SRS derived all of its revenues from audio technology licensing activities for the consumer electronics, computer and game markets.

From March 2, 1998 to September 29, 2006, through SRS Labs, Inc.’s formerly wholly-owned subsidiary, Valence, we operated a fabless semiconductor business which developed, designed and marketed standard and custom analog integrated circuits, digital signal processors, and mixed signal integrated circuits primarily to OEMs and original design manufacturers (“ODMs”), in the Asia Pacific region.

Formed during the end of 1999, the company's SRSWOWcast subsidiary was established as an entertainment portal with original Internet programming, syndicated programming and as a demonstration platform for SRS audio technologies. In 2001, the company revised its business strategy to focus on licensing the company's audio and voice enhancement technology solutions for Internet audio, online radio and traditional broadcast applications, and in 2003, SRSWOWcast became a wholly-owned subsidary of SRS Labs.

From September 2004 to June 2006, SRS Labs and Coming Home Studios (CHS) entered into a strategic relationship whereupon CHS used SRS Circle Surround 5.1 encoding technology for Coming Home’s concert DVDs and companion CDs.  CHS produced and distributed five concert videos and CDs featuring SRS Circle Surround, including DVDs from Duran Duran, Bozz Scaggs, Matchbox Twenty, Godsmack, and more.

Today, SRS Labs’ core business focuses purely on developing, licensing and marketing audio enhancement, voice processing and surround sound technology solutions to leading OEMs, ODMs, software providers and semiconductor manufacturers in the home entertainment, portable media device, personal telecommunication, personal computer and automotive markets.
